OUR FIRST TRIMETAL YOYO
the DREAMER
Mid 2022, Christopher Cotton and I began to brainstorm on a signature yoyo for him. We had just finished releasing Jonathan Saelen’s signature yoyo, the Inception. The Inception was such a success among the yoyo community, we wanted to up the ante even higher. Christopher led the project and already had in mind more or less what he wanted his signature yoyo to look, feel, and play like. After owning and playing with yoyos that cost over a thousand dollars, Christopher began thinking about making one of the best all-around yoyos on the market.
Once again, we got in touch with Patrick Dressel who has always helped us bring all of our projects to life and began throwing ideas together. Ultimately, we decided to make a tri-metal yoyo. Christopher wanted something that has been seen before in terms of tri-metals. He decided to make the body 7068 aluminum with a titanium outer ring and stainless-steel inner ring. We thought the idea was fantastic and couldn’t wait for Patrick to put it into CAD.
Once we saw the CAD design, we were immediately in love with it. We did have to do some tweaking and go back and forth with different little aspects and details of the yoyo, but we were set that it would look the way it did. After a few tweaks, we sent the file off to the factory to get done.
Here is where we ran into some problems. Tri-metal can be extremely tricky to get perfect and the way we wanted. The goal was to make this yoyo as smooth, powerful, and stable as possible. The factory had taken some time to try to perfect this for us and ultimately it took a little over six months to get the prototypes in and for Christopher to sign off and approve after weeks of continuous testing.
Once we got the okay to start production, we went right back to the drawing board to play with different body and ring colors. There are really endless and customizable options when it comes to body colors. Ring colors are a bit more limited but can also be mixed and matched. We kept thinking and trying different colors when we finally came to the conclusion and idea that was in front of us this whole time, which was making an Unknown collaboration.
We had done an Unknown collaboration for the Inception, and we couldn’t believe how long it took us to realize this is what we should have done from the beginning. We asked Christopher what he thought, and he was excited to do this. We immediately reached out to Unknown, and he was more than happy to help us create the engraving for the Dreamer.
The name Christopher chose came about because his life motto has always been, “If you have a dream, and believe in yourself, anything really is possible.” He wanted it to play like a dream and it lives up to its name. You can throw any trick at it, and it will outperform most yoyos on the market. It has speed, stability, power, float, and so much more! Every great dream begins with a Dreamer!
A little over a year and we finally have our Dreamer, and we couldn’t be any happier or excited for you guys to try it out for yourselves! We are so proud to have Christopher be a part of our team and would like to continue this success we have had as a yoyo company. We would like to thank each and every one of you that has stuck with us and supported us throughout the years. We can’t wait to show you guys what we have in store next!
